How The Aaran Journal approaches its work?
The Aaran Journal is an independent publication built around ideas, economics, strategy, places, people and the longer forces shaping enterprise and society.
Our purpose is not to publish for the sake of volume or immediacy. It is to examine subjects thoughtfully, distinguish observation from evidence, and give ideas the space they require to be understood with context and perspective.
Editorial independence
The Aaran Journal is editorially independent. Its perspectives are not determined by the commercial interests, investments, enterprises or organisations with which its founder, editors or contributors may be associated.
Where a subject involves an organisation, enterprise, investment or relationship that could reasonably be considered relevant to the reader’s understanding of a piece, that connection should be disclosed.
Opinions and interpretations belong to their respective authors. They are presented as perspectives to be considered, not as institutional positions or prescriptions.
Research, accuracy and corrections
The Aaran Journal aims to distinguish clearly between observation, interpretation and established fact. Where an article relies on historical records, data, research or other external sources, those sources should be examined with appropriate care and acknowledged where relevant.
Every reasonable effort is made to ensure factual accuracy at the time of publication. When a material factual error is identified, the Journal will correct it. Where the correction significantly affects the meaning or conclusions of an article, the change should be made transparent to readers.
The Journal may also update articles when additional context, information or subsequent developments materially improve the reader’s understanding of the subject.
Experience and interpretation
Many articles in The Aaran Journal draw upon lived experience: building enterprises, encountering different places and communities, working with people, or observing how economic and institutional forces operate in practice.
Personal experience can provide context and perspective, but it is not presented as universal evidence. Where broader conclusions are considered, the Journal seeks to distinguish between what has been personally observed, what can be independently established, and what remains interpretation.
Memory is also imperfect. Essays drawing on events from the past may reflect how those experiences are remembered and understood by the author, while factual details that materially affect the subject should be verified wherever reasonably possible.
Authorship and contributions
Articles published in The Aaran Journal should reflect the genuine perspective and intellectual contribution of their named authors. Research, editorial assistance and other tools may support the development of a piece, but responsibility for its arguments, interpretations and final published form rests with the author.
The Journal may publish invited or contributed work from time to time. Contributions are considered for their relevance, originality and ability to add a meaningful perspective to the subjects explored by the Journal.
Publication is at the discretion of the Journal, and contributed work may be edited for clarity, accuracy, structure and consistency with its editorial standards.
Commercial relationships
Commercial relationships should not determine editorial conclusions. Where The Aaran Journal publishes sponsored, commissioned or otherwise commercially supported material, that relationship should be clearly identified so that readers can distinguish it from independently produced editorial work.
Advertising, partnerships or other commercial arrangements do not constitute editorial endorsement. Likewise, the inclusion of a person, organisation, destination, product or enterprise in editorial coverage should not by itself imply a commercial relationship with the Journal.
Where an author has a material financial or professional interest directly relevant to the subject being discussed, that relationship should be disclosed when it is necessary for readers to evaluate the perspective being presented.
Attribution and intellectual property
The Aaran Journal respects the work and intellectual property of others. Ideas, research, reporting, quotations, images and other material originating elsewhere should be attributed appropriately when used in the Journal’s work.
The Journal seeks to distinguish between drawing upon an existing body of knowledge and presenting another person’s work as one’s own. Direct quotations should be identified as such, and substantial claims derived from external research or reporting should be attributed where appropriate.
Original articles, photography and other material published by The Aaran Journal remain subject to the rights of their respective authors, creators or rights holders. Material should not be reproduced beyond applicable legal exceptions without appropriate permission.
